Units of study:
5th grade Challenge students
Design (Students design a home based upon a random family's budget and housing needs.) Internet Cruises (Through the use of the internet students create a cruise line and research a travel destinations. Students learn about the history, culture, wildlife, sites to see, etc.. for his or her destination) Law (Students explore current law and get the opportunity to serve on a jury in the case of the School House Burglary. Is Skip Little guilty of vandalizing his high school?)
6th grade Challenge Students Egypt(Students explore ancient Egypt through fun activities like designing a 3-D map of the Nile. Personal Finance (Students apply for jobs, keep a checkbook, buy a car, buy a house, and explore taxes and responsibilities of adult life.) Adventures in Liberty (Students learn about American symbols and freedoms granted to all Americans) Invent (Students get to research famous inventors and get to show his or her creativeness by improving existing products or inventing something of his or her own.
7th/8th grade Challenge students Since 7th and 8th grade students have class together units are taught every two years. Units for years beginning with even numbers: Odyssey (A study of Greek Mythology) Skatepark Science (Students study laws of motion and design a skatepark for a marble skater) Christendom (Students study Medieval times through activities like role playing a monk for a day) Greeks-(Students study ancient Greece)
Units for years beginning with odd numbers: Code Blue (Students become doctors and must deside how to treat various patients) Amazing Shapes (Students design a maze for an amusement park) Bridges (Student study and build various types of bridges and learn the benefits of particular bridges) Design (In this unit we get to have some fun and design tshirt, create string art, as well as study basic principles of art)
